Trump Takes First Steps To End Mueller Investigation!

Well, that didn’t take long.

Jeff Sessions has resigned as Attorney General at the request of the President, according to a letter released by the White House on Wednesday.

Donald Trump himself happily announced the personnel change on Twitter, revealing:

Here’s a quick breakdown of what this likely means for Robert Mueller‘s investigation into Russian election interference and subsequent obstruction of justice by the Trump campaign:

WHEN

It’s no coincidence Trump did this right after midterms.

Democrats have finally taken back control of the House. That means Trump only has two months left to do whatever he wants with no worry of congressional oversight.

Heck, in January the House could even pass a bill to protect the investigation (Paul Ryan wouldn’t even let the House vote on it).

So Trump is acting fast.

WHY

We are no fans of Sessions.

But he did make the right move in recusing himself from the Russia investigation, for which Trump has publicly and LOUDLY been complaining for months.

Trump may be asked time and again why he did this, to give a reason apart from blatant obstruction of justice. Someone may even write one down for him.

But he won’t be able to help himself. He’ll admit the truth.

Replacing Sessions means having someone in charge at the Department of Justice who thinks Mueller has somehow overstepped his bounds.

WHO

Ordinarily when the Attorney General steps down, the Deputy AG becomes the acting leader of the Justice Department until a new one can be confirmed.

Trump chose to bypass Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, who has diligently protected the Mueller investigation. Instead he put in Matthew Whitaker, a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and Sessions’ Chief of Staff.

Why Whitaker?

During his time as a CNN legal commentator, he wrote an op-ed titled Mueller’s investigation of Trump is going too far. In a TV roundtable last year about this exact situation (when it was still hypothetical), he said:

“So I could see a scenario where Jeff Sessions is replaced, it would recess appointment and that attorney general doesn’t fire Bob Mueller but he just reduces his budget to so low that his investigations grinds to almost a halt.”

Anyone think that’s NOT the plan Trump wants to enact now?

This of course despite the fact the investigation has found numerous crimes…

WTF

So far 35 individuals and companies have been indicted, including several members of Trump’s campaign and transition team.

At least six people have already plead guilty, including the President’s National Security Adviser, foreign policy adviser, and campaign chairman.

Another two cases referred to other courts have resulted in guilty pleas — including Trump’s personal lawyer, who named the POTUS as a co-conspirator in campaign finance violation!

This morning, Trump called the Russia investigation a “hoax” on live TV.

If you don’t think he’s going to do everything he can get away with to stop the investigation into the crimes, then what DO you think of all this??
