This one is a head-scratcher — but we all kind of know what they mean!
It’s become increasingly clear that Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin really did get married in an official civil ceremony at a New York City courthouse on Thursday afternoon — and legally, multiple sources are reporting they are now man and wife.
But that’s not how Justin & Hailey see it!
In what appears to be a now-deleted tweet, Baldwin herself took to social media to discuss the speculation yesterday, writing (below):
“I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet!”
Wait, what? But… you are married, yes?!
As a friend of the couple explained late last night to People, Baldwin and Bieber think that “a civil ceremony and their ‘real’ wedding are two separate things.”
Another “religious source” added more info, too, saying (below):
“What happened at the courthouse is a courthouse thing — a legal thing. But marriage is two people making a vow before God and the people they love.”
Ahhhh… so, sure, even though the couple technically has their marriage in the most legal, secular sense, things don’t really start happening until the wedding ceremony takes place, they get their family and friends around, yadda, yadda, yadda, and bam!
Fair enough — we can buy that. The ceremony is a symbolic thing and tends to be VERY important. Understandable.
But they are technically married right now, anyways, so… just sayin’! Ha!!
